Fire Evacuation Chairs

In order to comply with the Disability Discrimination Act, it is imperative that all large venues and businesses have disabled access equipment such as fire evacuation chairs.

It is not the responsibility of the fire brigade to move those with disabilities out of a building in the event of a fire. It is the responsibility of the business, which should have fire evacuation chairs on site in order to start the evacuation process immediately.

Most buildings are designed with people who are able to walk down steps in order to reach a safe area in mind, so identifying disabled users escape methods is important.

Fire evacuation chairs are essentially wheelchairs that can be used to provide quick and efficient escape for those with disabilities in venues with a large number of stairs.
